Alright these two bourbons are sale this weekend and i need some help deciding. Both are the same price for the same size. It's between the Evan Williams Black Label and the Old Grand Dad 86 Orange Label. Help me decide!  :P

Two completely different tastes to me -- the EW Black is a more "classic" bourbon profile, but I prefer the rye in the OGD mashbill, even at a mere 86 proof.

Give your money to Heaven Hill.  They are a family owned company.
So, my vote is for Evan Williams.

Its true, they are completely different.  I'd say, if you've never had the OGD before...  The EW will be a safer bet.

Ifd you want to try the ODG before you buy, go to a bar and order a shot.  most bars should have it.

Cheers,

Scott

I like them both, but I'd give the nod to Mr. Williams...for the same reason Tex does.

If I had to chose between the two I would pick EWB.

Thery are both good but if I have to choose I'm in the OGD camp.  Sometimes that juice just hits the spot.  I get a lot more smoke and depth from it than it's price point would suggest.

Thanx for all of the suggestions. Yes EWB is a nice bourbon but I've had plenty of that before and never tried the OGD so I ended up buying that.

And....how would you rate your experience with OGD?

I saw that Spec's had both onsale this weekend...is that where you found the special?

If you like Old Grandad 86, then you have Bonded, and 114 to look forward to.  In my opinion the best whiskey Beam makes.  I think Evan Williams black label is much better than most of the other Beam brands.  The Heaven Hill bonded 100 proof brands are worth checking out.   ;D

If he would have asked EWB against OGD BIB that would have been a tougher question  ;) .

I have not had OGD in a while...but, the last time I tried the two(Bib and 86)...the 86 seemed to carry more age.

The alcohol in the Bib is nice...but, it just tasted too young.

I prefer to vatt the 114 and the 86 to get the best overall flavor profile for that mashbill.

My vote goes to Evan Williams as I have found OGD to be inconsistent and have actually poured it out on one occasion.  Neither are remarkable IMO.  Certainly a matter of taste.

To me, Evan Williams is the Best pour of the 'bottom shelf'. I found that OGD had a taste profile like that of Wild Turkey which is not high on my list. Sorry WT lovers  :-\
